Superwoman is a Myth

The superwoman trope suggests that strength is about doing it all, all the time.

While this image is inspiring, it can also be exhausting and unrealistic. It sets a standard that no one can continuously meet without burning out.

The pressure to be perfect in every role can lead to stress, anxiety, and a sense of inadequacy.

The Superwoman Myth, the idea that women, especially Black women, must always be strong and self-sacrificing is harmful. This expectation forces women to suppress emotions, overextend themselves, and neglect their well-being. The pressure to always “have it together” leads to stress, anxiety, and health issues. It also reinforces systemic inequities, making it harder for women to set boundaries or rest without guilt.

This myth appears in everyday life in ways that feel normal but are actually harmful. It appears in the mother who neglects self-care to put her family first, the professional who refuses to take a break for fear of seeming weak, and the friend who never asks for help because she’s always been “the strong one.” The misconception that strength equals silence and self-denial is praised, only further isolates women, making them feel that they must navigate life’s challenges alone. But true strength isn’t about enduring alone—it’s about allowing yourself to be seen, even in moments of uncertainty, and embracing the freedom that comes with vulnerability.

Myth: If I don’t do it, it won’t get done.

Truth: Everything is not yours to carry. Delegating or asking for help doesn’t mean you’re weak, it means you’re wise.

Myth: Rest has to be earned

Truth: Rest is necessary. Even God rested. You can’t pour from an empty cup.

Myth: I have to be strong for everyone else.

Truth: You deserve the same love, care, and support that you give to others.

Myth: Emotions make me weak

Truth: suppressing your emotions doesn't make you strong, it makes you exhausted. true strength is allowing yourself to feel, process and heal.

Myth: I should always have it together

Truth: No one has it together all the time. Growth comes from allowing yourself to be human, we’re not perfect, we are flawed

She’s Awakened Moment: A Word of Encouragement

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28 This is your reminder that you don’t have to be strong all the time. God sees you. He’s got you. And He never intended for you to carry everything on your own.

Journal Corner: Sis, rest is not a reward. It’s a requirement.

Have you ever denied yourself rest because you felt as if you didn't deserve it.

You deserve rest. It is not something you have to earn.
